Bouffant is a type of hairstyle characterized by hair piled high on the head and hanging down the sides. It was a mainstream hairstyle in the mid-to-late 18th Century in Western Europe.

It was probably created for Marie Antoinette, because they had relatively thin hair, and was the cause of the illusion of having very good hair. In modern times, was bouffant in Western culture in the sixties, popular as they use the back-combing and the large amounts of hair spray was caused.

A bouffant cap (from its resemblance to the hairstyle) is a kind of cap that completely covers the hair for use in cleanrooms and other situations where it is important to avoid loose hair.

They are usually made of polypropylene or of something else non-woven material with an elastic band around the edge to keep them tightly around the forehead and the back of the head below the hairline. Since they can be worn by any sex and any hairstyle, bouffant caps are a popular and economical choice of main job covering. Cafeteria workers’ hairnets and hospital scrub hats are two common examples of Bouffantart caps.
